Iggy & The Stooges, Pixies, The Vaselines, Daniel Johnston, David Bowie, e i Wipers con ben tre album: sono alcuni degli artisti citati da Kurt Cobain nella lista dei suoi 50 album preferiti, che aveva elencato nei suoi diari, aggiungendo anche delle note, come quella sui Vaselines: “Ho questa sensazione che Eugene e Frances avessero una relazione davvero cool. Non so se sia vero o no, ma penso che sia una cosa davvero incredibile quando una coppia riesce ad andare d’accordo e scrivere alcune delle canzoni più belle che abbia mai sentito”. O sui Wipers: “I primi due album sono completamente classici e influenzati dai Melvins e tutte le altre band punk. Loro sono una delle band che ho cercato di assimilare. Le loro canzoni sono davvero buone. Greg Sage era il tipo di ragazzo romantico, tranquillo, visionario. Cos’altro posso dire su di loro? Hanno iniziato il grunge di Seattle a Portland nel 1977″.
