Fra gli artisti che hanno contribuito al quarto volume del Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project ci sono Dave Gahan, Nick Cave e Debbie Harry
The Task Has Overwhelmed Us, in uscita il 29 settembre via Glitterhouse Records, è il quarto volume della serie The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, inaugurato nel 2009 con We Are Only Riders, dove molti musicisti reinterpretano brani tratti dal repertorio dei Gun Club, oltre che inediti e materiale incompiuto.
Il primo brano ad anticipare l’uscita è stato On The Other Side, interpretato da Nick Cave e Debbie Harry, che avevano già duettato nel 2009 con Free to Walk, nel 2012 con The Breaking Hands, da The Journey Is Long, e nel 2014 con Into the Fire, da Axels and Sockets.
Partecipa al progetto per la prima volta invece Dave Gahan, con una reinterpretazione di Mother Of Earth, affiancato da Suzie Stapleton alla voce e tastiere, James Johnston (Gallon Drunk, The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey) al violino, Gavin Jay (Jim Jones Revue) al basso e Ian White (Gallon Drunk) alla batteria.
Fra gli altri artisti che hanno contribuito all’album ci sono Mick Harvey, Lydia Lunch, Jim Jarmusch, Duke Garwood Mark Lanegan e Mark Stewart.
