NME.com readers have voted Arctic Monkeys as the act they’d most like to see headline next year’s Reading and Leeds Festival.

Thousands of readers cast their votes and the Sheffield band came out top. Daft Punk and Kanye West came in second and third place, whilst Blink-182, The Stone Roses, Muse, Foo Fighters and The Strokes also pulled in substantial votes.

Speaking to NME at the festival over the weekend, Reading and Leeds boss Melvin Benn said that Chase and Status could one day headline the festival following their “lively” show on Saturday night (August 24) at Reading. “Chase and Status clearly are capable of headlining Reading and Leeds Festival – there’s no doubt about that,” he said. “Another new album, a couple more years – there’d be no doubt in my mind that they would be capable of doing it.” Scroll down to watch the full video interview with Benn about the band’s set.

Chase and Status were forced to stop their performance at Reading Festival several times after many fans down the front were getting crushed against the barriers. The dance outfit had to halt their set during ‘Let You Go’, which saw MC Rage calling for the crowd to take a step back. “A lot of people are being crushed and we can’t carry on,” he said. “Reading are you with me? Then fucking move back then.”

Festival boss Benn looked visibly concerned and even whispered in Rage’s ear to get him to calm the huge crowd that had gathered for their performance. Rage added: “Anyone who is on the floor please step over the barriers. Seriously we need everyone to push back.”
