Tutte le nomination ai Grammy 2021, con Fontaines D.C., Phoebe Bridgers, Big Thief, Arca

L’artista con più nomination per i Grammy Awards 2021 è Beyoncé, con nove candidature.

A dominare le nominations per i Grammy Awards del 2021 è Beyoncé, candidata a nove premi, fra cui quelli per canzone e disco dell’anno. Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa e Roddy Ricch seguono con sei nomination a testa. Fra i candidati anche Fontaines D.C., Big Thief, Phoebe Bridgers, Arca, Tame Impala, Disclosure, Michael Kiwanuka, Strokes. La serata di premiazione sarà presentata da Trevor Noah e trasmessa sulla CBS il prossimo 31 gennai 14 marzo (15 marzo in Italia).

Tra le altre curiosità e i record ve ne segnaliamo qualcuno: Poppy, Phoebe Bridgers, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, BTS, Harry Styles sono alla loro prima nomination. La coppia d’oro Beyoncé e Jay Z raggiungono rispettivamente 79 e 80 nomination (a pari merito con il produttore Quincy Jones), il massimo per un’artista femminile e per un artista maschile.

Quando arriverete ai Best Spoken Word Album, tra i quali sono compresi anche gli audiolibri, scoprirete che anche Flea, bassista dei Red Hot Chili Peppers, concorre con l’audiolibro del suo memoir Acid for the Children. Tra gli sfidanti della sua categoria ci sono anche l’attrice Meryl Streep e Ronan Farrow, giornalista premio Pulitze che ha scoperchiato il caso Weinstein da cui poi è partito il movimento MeToo. Tra le Best Rap Performance spicca Pop Smoke, il rapper americano che il 19 febbraio è stato ucciso all’età di 20 anni da quattro uomini incappucciati che hanno fatto irruzione in casa e lo hanno ferito a morte con due colpi di arma da fuoco. Il 3 luglio 2020 il suo album d’esordio Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, come già deciso, è stato pubblicato portandolo a diventare il primo rapper a raggiungere la cima della Billboard 200 con un disco di debutto postumo.

C’è però una categoria che più di tutti attira l’interesse, ed è quella degli esclusi. Il più inaspettato è The Weeknd con zero nomination pur avendo avuto il suo singolo Blinding Lights per 40 settimane nella top 10 e 33 nella top 5 della Billboard Hot 100, battendo il record per la top 10 hit più longeva della storia. Secondo alcune fonti vicine del sito TMZ pare che le lunghe trattative per l’esibizione alla serata del Grammy, e la scelta definitiva della performance nell’half time del Super Bowl (7 febbraio 2021), abbiano fatto andare su tutte le furie le alte sfere degli Awards escludendo The Weeknd dalle nomination. Per ora nessuno ha rilasciato dichiarazioni. Attendiamo di capire meglio.

L’altro grande escluso è Bob Dylan che ha raggiunto la prima posizione nella classifica Rock Digital Song Sales di Billboard con il singolo Murder Most Foul ed ha pubblicato durante il periodo di ammissibilità ai Grammy (1 settembre 2019 – 31 agosto 2020) l’ottimo Rough and Rowdy Ways. L’incognita è che per le nomination ai Grammy è l’artista (o chi ne fa le veci) che deve sottoporre il disco ogni anno, quindi non è chiaro se questo passaggio sia stato fatto. Cosa non rara, che vede Frank Ocean, Drake, Cardi B e Macklemore tra gli artisti che solitamente non si rendono eleggibili per la nomination.
